HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

St. Ann's English Medium High School, Tiruvur (Co-Education) is a Roman Catholic, Minority Institution established by the Society of the Sisters of St. Ann on 1st August, 1994 at the invitation of Late Bishop Rt. Rev. Joseph Thumma, the then Bishop of Vijayawada. The school is now registered under St. Ann's Educational Society, Vijayawada. The School prepares the Students for the Secondary School Certificate Examination, through English Medium.

AIM OF THE SCHOOL

The object of this institution is to prepare future citizens who would think and work for the Mother land with a spirit of dedication irrespective of their difference in caste, creed of religion. It expects the child to turn out to be a Person of God and Good character from whom knowledge, high principles, culture and refinement will overflow to the society in which he/she lives.

THE PREAMBLE

The Society of the Sisters of Sr.Ann Luzern was founded in1909 by Fr.Wilhelm Mayer, Sharing the Vision and Charism of our Founder, We have taken up educational Apostolate since 1940According to the need of the time.

VISION AND MISSION

We envision Education as a means to the creation of a New Agecharacterized by the values of love, justice, peace, and brotherhood,through developing in every student, a well formed conscience, rootedin God and based on genuine human relationships and by channelingtheir creativity,energy and initiatives towards the same end, throughan integrated and well - planned programme of learning.

The Society, through the educational programme, aims at promoting intellectual excellence, scientific temper, critical mind,creative thinking, spirit of healthy competition and cooperation amongthe children and youth It is the Society's special priority to inculcatein the students, God consciousness and foster in them the qualitiesof cheerfulness, loving Kindness, compassion and forgiveness,preparing them to be agents of religious harmony, peace andsecularism, thus contributing towards National Integration.

MINORITY STATUS

All the institutions administered by the Society are religious minority institutions and function under articles 29 and 30 of theConstitution of India. The minority rights are granted to preserve,promote and protect the culture of the minority community, and tocherish and foster the philosophy of life in which the institutions arerooted and from which they draw their sustenance. The purposeand objectives of these rights are to encourage the minorities tomake their contribution to the building up of an egalitarian societyand secular state. Consequently, acceptance and appreciation ofsuch a philosophy is expected of all the employees of the institution.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Our educational programme aims at the integrated developmentof the human person. As a Catholic institution our attempt is to leadour students to various avenues of Knowledge and help them tothink creatively. We focus our attention to provide sound, intellectual,spiritual, psychological, physical, moral social and cultural formation.

”The real object of education is to give children, resources thatwill endure as long as life endures. ”(Sidney Smith) In addition totextual Knowledge, Our educational institutions inculcate in thestudents intellectual curiosity, habits of systematic work, personalquest for Knowledge, critical and creative thinking and an aptitudefor research.

”What sculptor to a piece of marble, education is to the soul”(Thomas Addison) The Spiritual Education programmes are geared towards fostering in our students a high degree of awareness ofgod, self others and the universe, religious tolerance, the capacityto face challenges and transcend suffering, the quality of beinginspired by vision and values, and a sense of communion with allliving beings.

Our curriculum includes a well developed programme of physical education, sports and games, Karate, yoga and other outdoor exercises, which help todevelop a healthy body, self discipline and an attitude of grateful acceptance ofone’s life as a gift of God. It also promotes the spirit of teamwork.

Students are trained in leadership qualities to be inspiring persons withcourage and inner strength and to take up responsibilities for the welfare ofall. The school encourages healthy competitions which channelize theircreative energy positively.

We prepare the students who would think and work for the motherlandwith the spirit of dedication, irrespective of their difference in caste, creed ofreligion. A balanced sense of values is fostered to prepare the students fordifferent professions and for a meaningful life.

The students are helped to be aware and accept that all are children of thesame God, the Father who is the author and source of life and creation. Our educational programme enables the students to respect all religions. It createsawareness that the people of different religions. It creates awareness that thepeople of different religions. It creates awareness that the people of differentreligions are co pilgrims guiding one another towards the one immanent andtranscendent God.

Our educational programme fosters a healthy attitude towards manual labour and hard work. The staff and students take responsibility in keeping the school and surroundings clean. Every employee is treated with dignityand love.

”Read the Word but also read the World” the students are trained to haverespect for the basic human dignity and human rights as well as deepcompassion for the poor and downtrodden. We make them aware of the evilsexisting in the society and instill in them a sense of justice to establish a justsociety.

Love and respect for Mother Earth is an important aspect of our educational endeavour. We help the children grow in harmony with nature. We encouragethem to participate in beautifying the environment and preserving the richnessof Mother Earth.
